CLOUGH OUGHTER CASTLE

Visit the iconic Clough Oughter Castle Island

Clough Oughter Castle is a ruined circular castle on a small island in Lough Oughter, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) east of the town of Killeshandra in County Cavan, Ireland.

The Silent Stone Watchman is one of the nicknames given to this 12th Century Norman structure. Built around the time of the last Kings of Ireland, the castle sits on a Crannóg and is only accessible by water. It is steeped in a history of conflict and violence.
